2012 Important Season Notice

Dear South Peak Resort Owners,

Loon has the most Spring terrain and snow in New Hampshire, so it’s not too late to enjoy the sunny skies and fun! It has been a great winter season this year due to the tremendous snowmaking and grooming efforts of the Loon staff. However, due to the record high temperatures this past week, South Peak, the warming hut and the homeowner lift are now closed for the season. The Loon shuttle bus will run through this Sunday, March 25th and Loon intends to be open through Sunday, April 8th.  For up to date information check Loon’s website for their snow conditions.

Local Spotlight: The Vineyard at Seven Birches

oenology –n. [ee-nol-uh-jee]:  the study of wine.

In the wake of our Maple Sugaring post last week, I’d like to introduce you to another delightful local aspect of this season.

Seven Birches, nestled inside of Windy Ridge Orchard

Many of you may know Mark LaClair as the Executive Director of the Lincoln-Woodstock Chamber of Commerce, but locals here know him by another title:

Mark LaClair, Vintner.

While maple sap boils and bubbles down into sweet syrup at farms nearby, LaClair is preparing to unveil the latest treats from his winery – The Vineyard at Seven Birches.

NCCA Looking Forward to 2012

Local supporters had the opportunity to sign the beams that would form the internal structure of Jean's Playhouse.

One year ago the Papermill Theatre held a wonderful ceremony, “Raise the Roof!”.  As we watched from below, a steel beam was lifted by crane up into its final resting place as part of Jean’s Playhouse infrastructure, the Papermill’s new home, adorned by dozens and dozens of signatures of local supporters.

Here is the same beam, one year later!

Maple Sugaring Season in New Hampshire

New Hampshire’s maple sugaring season has begun! A long-standing tradition synonymous with spring, the season runs from late February to early April typically depending on location and weather. This industry contributes $5 million dollars annually to New Hampshire’s state economy and typically provides 90,000 gallons worth of maple syrup, though last year’s season reported a record of 125,000 gallons of syrup. Now put that number into perspective with this fact: roughly forty gallons of sap are required to make one gallon of syrup!

The Kup is Half Full! (The Kostick Kup, that is.)

This amazing annual event, produced by New England Disabled Sports, is right around the corner – this coming Saturday, March 10th!

Twenty-three years ago, New England Disabled Sports created the event in remembrance of their dear friend Lorey Kostick, an avid ski racer and supporter of NEDS.  Today, the Kostick Kup is the organization’s largest fundraiser for their equipment, needs-based scholarship program, and year-round adaptive programs.  Following the all-day race, a dinner and live auction will be held at the Beacon Resort.  Every penny goes to support the continuation of NEDS’ incredible cause.
