Maple Sugaring Season in New Hampshire

New Hampshire’s maple sugaring season has begun! A long-standing tradition synonymous with spring, the season runs from late February to early April typically depending on location and weather. This industry contributes $5 million dollars annually to New Hampshire’s state economy and typically provides 90,000 gallons worth of maple syrup, though last year’s season reported a record of 125,000 gallons of syrup. Now put that number into perspective with this fact: roughly forty gallons of sap are required to make one gallon of syrup!

The Flying Yankee October 7-9

The Flying Yankee is a one-of-a-kind diesel-electric streamliner train (only 3 of its kind were ever built) that is chugging its way towards the end of a massive restoration project to return the engine to serviceable state.

Truly a rare and ingenious relic of its day, the Flying
Yankee was born under the watch of the Boston
and Maine –Maine Central railroads, the first long-distance engine not powered by steam.  Built for speed, the Flying Yankee sported on-board dining and air conditioning, and was in service through World War II.  In 1957 it retired to Carver, Massachusetts.

Welcome, Spring!

The winter season was amazing, but it’s time to hang up the skis, snowboards, and snowshoes — Spring weather is finally here! Lincoln is alive with a variety of birds, the steady cheeping of Peepers throughout the night, the roaring of the Pemigewassett River, and occasional rumbling thunder storms. The past few days have been very nice, with temperatures approaching the mid-70s. Most of the snow has melted throughout the South Peak Resort property, and green grass, daffodils and the budding trees are simply gorgeous.
