While I’ll miss lazy days lounging on the Pemi River, autumn offers terrific new opportunities to enjoy South Peak. New Hampshire’s White Mountains are never more beautiful than during fall foliage season when billowing warm hues color the periphery for hundreds of miles.

Only two hours from Greater Boston, South Peak at Loon Mountain is one of the best regions on the planet for leaf-peeping. Sweeping valley views from the Kancamagus Highway reveal flashes of bright red against the mountain landscape, with deep orange and gold not far behind. Foliage begins turning color in late September, with peak color expected in the second and third week of October.

To help plan your trip, the NH Department of Business and Economic Affairs launched an interactive Fall Foliage Tracker: Foliage Tracker

If you prefer a more active experience, South Peak and Loon Mountain Resorts have a variety of terrain to mountain bike or hike through the blaze of color. Don’t get too distracted by the color and fall off your bike!
